In search of Princely rock

Associated Press

Fans of Prince will be excited to hear the "bootleg" version of "Future Baby Mama," from his forthcoming Planet Earth album, which we assume has nothing to do with the Discovery Channel nature series (but wouldn't that be something?).

It's posted on his site, and it's a pretty enough track (with a fairly lame title), good for the grown-and-sexy crowd. It's a falsetto ballad. Like so many other of his falsetto ballads.

It's one of those things that drive some of his fans crazy: He rocks out at the Super Bowl and wows just about everyone who witnesses it, yet here we have another subdued love song. Even just his cover of the Foo Fighters' "Best of You" from that soggy Super Bowl might be better to put out there. But that's just me.

Hear it here.
