Honoring Jackie Robinson
Major League Baseball paid tribute to Jackie Robinson today, on the 60th anniversary of his history-making debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dozens of players wore Robinson's No. 42 to honor his breaking of baseball's color barrier. The Reds' Ken Griffey Jr. came up with the idea, and then it spread like wildfire, with players across the league wearing the jersey number that was retired by MLB in 1997.
The Dodgers, Pirates, Brewers, Phillies and Cardinals took it a step further, with each member of the team wearing No. 42. It was a pretty cool way to pay tribute to one of the all-time greats. But it must have been a nightmare for the scorekeepers.
