NX35, Pt. 1

Got to the NX35 Denton music party at Momo's just in time to see Robert Gomez (above) and his 8-piece band play (he added one since last year). His music is pretty melancholy for a rooftop venue during the day. It's damn near shoegaze-y. But why look at your shoes when you can watch every player in the band get into the music? Gomez has the most enthusiastic xylophone player I've ever seen.
And switching back and forth from accordian to geetar was Paul Slavens, who hosts the music show on KERA 90.1. Gomez played quite a few new songs from Brand New Towns, which comes out on Bella Union later this month. "Closer Still" and "Same Sad Song" are my faves. Look up his Myspace and get ahead of the game.
Next up at this party is Midlake. About 100 peeps watched Gomez, but that appears to have damn-near doubled in the last few minutes. Guess Midlake had much buzz on the blogosphere. Alright, they're starting soon. GOTTA GO!
